Prof. C.H. Cheng
Prof. CH Cheng, Dept. of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
CH Cheng is an associate professor at Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. After he graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), he furthered his education in the USA. He obtained his MSc in Computer Science, MBA and PhD from the University of Iowa. While he was a graduate student, he worked at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics as a programming analyst. He started his teaching career in the USA, but later he returned to Hong Kong and joined CUHK Faculty of Engineering. Prof Cheng conducts research in information systems, operations management, facility location and layout, logistics, risk management in healthcare, and applications of IoT systems.
Justin Dauwels
Dr. Justin Dauwels is an Associate Professor of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He also serves as Deputy Director of the ST Engineering – NTU corporate lab, which comprises 100+ PhD students, research staff and engineers, developing novel autonomous systems for airport operations and transportation.
His research interests are in data analytics with applications to intelligent transportation systems, autonomous systems, and analysis of human behaviour and physiology. He obtained his PhD degree in electrical engineering at the Swiss Polytechnical Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich in December 2005. Moreover, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute (2006-2007) and a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2008-2010). He has been a JSPS postdoctoral fellow (2007), a BAEF fellow (2008), a Henri-Benedictus Fellow of the King Baudouin Foundation (2008), and a JSPS invited fellow (2010, 2011).
His research on intelligent transportation systems has been featured by the BBC, Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Channel 5, and numerous technology websites. His research team has won several best paper awards at international conferences, and the research results have been published in top journals such as Science and Brain. Besides his academic efforts, the team of Dr. Justin Dauwels also collaborates intensely with local start-ups, SMEs, and agencies, in addition to MNCs, in the field of data-driven transportation and logistics.
Presentation: Towards the next-generation fleet management systems
There is considerable interest related to management of fleet of autonomous vehicles in both academia and industry. Robust and reliable commercial deployment of fleet of autonomous vehicles is impeded by the lack of the following two technologies. First, an integrated approach is lacking that can encompass all different aspects of the problem, including mobility models of vehicles, communication network and application environment, customer demand prediction, and real-time information about the transportation network.
Second, autonomous vehicles are still in trial phase, hence sufficient realistic field data may not be available in next few years. An integrated simulator can prove highly useful in bridging that gap. Such simulators would still be highly useful once the technology matures as they would provide an effective platform for developing further applications involving fleets of autonomous vehicles.
In this presentation, we will give an overview of our progress in both these directions.
K.C. Fung
K.C. Fung is the Senior Manager, IT Planning and Strategy for the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK). He leads the team responsible for IT planning, innovation and technology strategy. One of his main charter is to explore technologies that can make Hong Kong International Airport a Smart Airport. Mr. Fung is a seasoned IT professional with more than 30 years of industry experience. Prior to working for AAHK, he has held senior technical and management positions for multinational enterprises such as EMC, Sun Microsystems, Scotiabank and Dow Chemical located in Hong Kong, Canada and Shanghai. He is particularly strong in systems architecture and his latest focus is in digital transformation and technology innovation.
Mr. Fung graduated from the University of Hong Kong and Macquarie University in Australia. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society (http://www.hkcs.org.hk) as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Institute for IT Professional Certification (http://www.hkitpc.org). He is also a vice-chairman of the ICT Committee for Hong Kong Society of Rehabilitation (http://www.rehabsociety.org.hk) providing advices for the Society in digital transformation of rehabilitation services.
Ninja Huang
Ninja Huang is a Lab Group Manager at General Motors Global R&D Center. He has 25 years experiences in automotive manufacturing. He has been leading a project of Plant of Future where new potential gaming changing technologies are assessed and implemented. Currently he is leading the exploration on IoT in manufacturing, combined with intelligent machines and robotics.
Bernard Leong
Dr. Bernard Leong is the Head of Post Office Network and Digital Services for Singapore Post Pte Ltd, where he oversees the post offices network in Singapore and digital strategy across the organisation, manages the existing portfolio of products and builds the next generation digital products that integrates cross functionally with other business units in the organisation. Prior to that, he was a serial entrepreneur who started companies in both UK and Singapore. While not in his corporate hat, he’s a connector to the Southeast Asia entrepreneurial ecosystem as an entrepreneur in residence in INSEAD Business School and the founder of Analyse Asia, a weekly podcast focusing on the business, technology & media in Asia.
Presentation: Autonomous Transportation and its implications
In the recent years, there has been considerable interest in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and autonomous vehicles. In this talk, I discussed the challenges in bringing these technologies into the real world, and what it means for the supply chains in urban smart cities, logistics and agriculture.
Poh Khai Ng
Dr. Poh Khai Ng is a Senior Manager at the Asia Pacific Innovation Center, a global team focused on driving digitization and customer-centric innovation at DHL. In particular, he is responsible for driving many of the Internet of Things (IoT) innovation agendas within the Asia Pacific region. His scope includes working closely with the various DHL divisions to seek new capabilities that derives value from focussing on customer-centric innovation. Additionally, he is also managing a partnership between DHL and Huawei to provide synergies and accelerate the x-BU innovative collaborations between the two organizations.
Prior to DHL, Dr. Ng was a Strategy Consultant with Accenture Strategy. He was involved in a diverse range of projects, including sustainable development, smart & sustainable buildings, digital real estate, zero-based budgeting, merger & integration, project management office and change management. He has exposure to industries such as real estate, infrastructure, consumer goods and healthcare.
Dr. Ng holds a Ph.D in Architecture and a B.Sc in Building, both from the National University of Singapore.

Prof. Zhi Ning
Zhi Ning Chen received his BEng, MEng, and PhD degrees all in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Communications Engineering (ICE), China and his second PhD degree from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, respectively.
Since1988 he has worked several universities, research organizations and industry research centers as a professor, researcher and manager. In 2012, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore as a tenured Full Professor.
Professor Chen is the founding General Chairs of four international events. Currently Dr Chen is interested in electromagnetic engineering and antennas/sensors for communication, radar, imaging and sensing systems. He has published more than 580 academic papers and five books including Handbook of Antenna Technologies with 76 chapters (by Springer References in 2016 as an Editor-in-Chief). He is holding 28 granted/ filed patents with 35 licensed deals with industry. He is the recipient of many international best paper and outstanding engineering awards.
Dr Chen elevated a Fellow of the IEEE for the contribution to small and broadband antennas for wireless applications in 2007. He has served IEEE Council on RFID as a Vice President and a Distinguished Lecturer since 2015. He severed IEEE Transaction on Antennas and Propagation as an Associate Editor and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society as a Distinguished Lecturer.

Dr. Frank Tong
Dr Frank Tong is the Director of Research and Technology Development of the Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies (LSCM R&D Centre). He joined the LSCM R&D Centre when it was established in 2006. Since then, Frank has been developing the Centre’s R&D programmes, heading the Centre’s roadmap in the areas of logistics IT infrastructure and application technology, focused in developing innovative technologies for the local industry.
Through these years, the LSCM R&D Centre has established its centre of excellence in the technologies of RFID, IoT, LBS, Robotics, information security, AI, big data analytics, and demonstrates the applicability in the sectors of logistics, supply chain management, retail, construction, elderly care, per se. Frank’s R&D is close to industry. He is keen on building partnerships, innovating solutions, products, and transferring the results to the industry community.
Ir Dr Kim-Fung Tsang
Ir Dr TSANG Kim-Fung, PhD, CEng, FHKIE, SMIEEE, MIET
Ir Dr Tsang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong. He has published more than 200 technical papers and four books. He contributed significantly to the design and development of mobile phone infrastructure, wireless home/office/building automation and energy management system, location tracking, healthcare, smart transportation, security, …. etc. KF is now devoting his effort to ZigBee and LPWAN development including LoRa, SigFox and NB IoT.
Dr. Tsang is currently active in the following participation and capacity:

Luca Urciuoli
Dr. Prof. Luca Urciuoli – Luca Urciuoli is Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Department of Industrial Economics and Management, Stockholm and Adjunct Professor at the MIT International Logistics program in Zaragoza, Spain. Dr. Urciuoli’s publications have appeared in several prestigious peer-reviewed journals, some of them including Supply Chain Management: an International Journal, Government Information Quarterly, MIT Sloan Management Review, International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics, etc. His current research focuses on supply chain digitization, supply chain risk management, network design and biomass supply chains.

Fei-Yue Wang
Prof. Fei-Yue Wang – Fei-Yue Wang received his Ph.D. in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York in 1990. He joined the University of Arizona in 1990 and became a Professor and Director of the Robotics and Automation Lab (RAL) and Program in Advanced Research for Complex Systems (PARCS). In 1999, he founded the Intelligent Control and Systems Engineering Center at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, China, under the support of the Outstanding Overseas Chinese Talents Program from the State Planning Council and ”100Talent Program” from CAS, and in 2002, was appointed as the Director of the Key Lab of Complex Systems and Intelligence Science, CAS. From 2006 to 2010, he was Vice President for Research, Education, and Academic Exchanges at the Institute of Automation, CAS. In 2011, he became the State Specially Appointed Expert and the Director of the State Key Laboratory for Management and Control of Complex Systems.
Dr. Wang’s current research focuses on methods and applications for parallel networks, social IoT and social signal processing, social computing, parallel intelligence, and knowledge automation. He was the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Intelligent Control and Systems (1995-2000), Founding EiC of IEEE ITS Magazine (2006-2007), EiC of IEEE Intelligent Systems (2009-2012), and EiC of IEEE Transactions on ITS (2009-2016). Currently he is EiC of IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, Founding EiC of IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica, and Chinese Journal of Command and Control. Since 1997, he has served as General or Program Chair of more than 20 IEEE, INFORMS, ACM, and ASME conferences. He was the President of IEEE ITS Society (2005-2007), Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST, USA) in 2005, the American Zhu Kezhen Education Foundation (2007-2008), and the Vice President of the ACM China Council (2010-2011). Since 2008, he has been the Vice President and Secretary General of Chinese Association of Automation.
Dr. Wang has been elected as Fellow of IEEE, INCOSE, IFAC, ASME, and AAAS. In 2007, he received the National Prize in Natural Sciences of China and was awarded the Outstanding Scientist by ACM for his research contributions in intelligent control and social computing. He received IEEE ITS Outstanding Application and Research Awards in 2009, 2011 and 2015, and IEEE SMC Norbert Wiener Award in 2014.

Simon K Y Wong
Mr Simon K Y Wong is the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies (LSCM R&D Centre). It was established in 2006 by the HKSAR Government and charged with the mission to research and develop relevant technical solutions to serve the logistics, construction and eCommerce industries in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region.
Mr Wong has more than 30 years of working experience in the commercial sector. Before joining the LSCM R&D Centre, Mr Wong held a number of technology development and management positions in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He worked at the General Electric Company between 1996 and 1999 and from 1999 to 2004, he was the President of GE Appliances Asia. He joined Johnson Electric in 2004 as the President of JE Trading Limited. He was highly involved in developing supply chain solutions for customers and exploring new business models. He held this position until 2010.
Mr Wong holds a master degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, United States. Currently, he is serving the following posts:

Guanghua Yang
Dr. Guanghua Yang – Guanghua Yang is an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, and the Associate Dean of the Institute of Physical Internet, Jinan University, Zhuhai, China. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). His research interests are in the general areas of communications, networking, and IoT. He has rich experience in both academia and industry. He has published 3 book chapters, more than 40 papers/articles in top-referred journals and international conferences, successfully led several R&D projects in multi-million dollar scale. Prior to returning back to academia in Jinan University, he was the founder of a startup company in the filed of IoT. He also served as vice-chair and steering committee member of the Alliance of IoT (Guangdong, China), and external advisor of Initiative on IoT of Southern China. Dr. Yang is a member of Project Management Institute (PMI), Project Management Professional (PMP) holder, and a voting member of IEEE MMTC.
